Everlasting life is a gift to us that is
given freely by God because He is not willing that any
should perish for eternity in hell. The Bible says, "The
Lord is not...willing that any should perish, but that all
should come to repentance." (II Peter 3:9).
A past history of crime, lying, cheating, stealing, drugs,
alcohol, adultery, homosexuality, etc. will not keep you out
of Heaven. Speaking to a group of born-again Christians
concerning their past sins, the Bible says, "Know ye not
that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?
Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor
adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with
mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor
revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of
God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye
are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord
Jesus..."
(I Corinthians 6:9-11).
It is not your sin that will keep you out of Heaven, but
your unbelief and lack of repentance. The Bible says, "Repent
ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be
blotted out..." (Acts 3:19). You sins must be washed
away. The Bible says, "Come now, and let us reason
together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like
crimson, they shall be as wool." (Isaiah 1:18).
God made a way for our sins to be washed away so that we can
have a home with Him in Heaven. The Bible says, "Jesus
Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten
of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto
him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own
blood," (Revelation 1:5-6)
Our washing is not by our doing but through what Jesus has
already done. The Bible says, "Forasmuch as ye know that
ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and
gold...But with the precious blood of Christ..." (I
Peter 1:18-19). Jesus Christ offers cleansing through His
blood that was shed on the cross of Calvary where He took
our sins. The Bible says that Jesus "bare our sins in his
own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should
live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed."
(I Peter 2:24). |
How can you receive the gift of
everlasting life? Everlasting
life is received by faith when you repent of your sin and trust
Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.
1. You must admit that you are a
sinner. The Bible says, "For all have sinned, and come short
of the glory of God;" (Romans 3:23). This can be a difficult
thing to do for many people, but it is the first step we all
must take towards receiving everlasting life.
2. You must believe that Jesus died
and shed His blood for your sins, that He was buried, and that
He rose from the dead. The Bible says, "That if thou shalt
confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in
thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt
be saved." (Romans 10:9).
3. You must repent of your sins and
the old lifestyle you have been living. Jesus said, "except
ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3).
Repentance does not just mean being sorry that you have sinned
against God. The word repent means: "to change one's mind, to be
converted." You can be sorry for your sins but if you never
repent and never change your mind or attitude towards sin then
there is no conversion. Where repentance is a change of mind,
conversion is a change of direction The Bible says, "Repent
ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted
out," (Acts 3:19). To repent and convert you must realize
you are going the wrong way and turn to God through Jesus Christ
by making the choice to turn from a life of sin and begin a new
life of obedience to God. The Bible says "Know ye not, that
to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye
are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience
unto righteousness?" (Romans 6:16)
4. You must call upon the Lord. The
Bible says, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the
Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13). There is no escape
from Hell but through the salvation offered By God through the
shed blood of Jesus Christ. The Bible says, "How shall we
escape, if we neglect so great salvation;" (Hebrews 2:3).
You must receive Jesus Christ to become a child of God. The
Bible says, "But as many as received him, to them gave he
power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on
his name:" (John 1:12). |
